About the project
In 2022, the prices of recreational and sports services in the EU increased by 4.7 %, more than double the previous years (1). The economic importance of sport has developed from several methodological origins. Most economic research in sport economies develops indicators for gross value added (GVA), employment and consumer spending. A further explanation of the benefits of the sports economy is related to well–being outcomes, either from participation in sports, or from participation in recreational activities and spending on sports clothing or goods. Sports participation and spectator consumption often involve travel, sometimes in combination with vacations. From this point of view, it is important to highlight the impact of sports tourism on economic and welfare effects.
Purpose
The purpose of the study in Albania is to evaluate the expenditure of the sports consumer in two distinct directions: active participation (e.g. participation in sports, fitness centers or recreational activities) and passive participation (e.g. attending sports events or spending on clothing or sports equipment)
